A very rare 1960s bronze modernist crucifix by the renowned Belgian Sculptor Raf Verjans, who was born in Tongeren (Belgium) in 1935. From 1949 to 1956 he studied arts in Maredsous (the renowned studio with famous artists such as Felix Roulain Jean Williame and Emile Souply). In 1957 he continued his studies and work placements in Athens and Italy at Pomodoro. From 1958 he worked as an independent sculptor-goldsmith with an exceptional interest in caricatures, etchings and music. In 1960 Raf Verjans and his wife Leona open a shop in Tongeren.
He made a career as an artist and holds exhibitions at home and abroad. From 1980 to 1995 he was appointed professor of arts and artistic sculptures in Brussels.This is one of early and very stylish crucifixes made by Raf Verjans.
